Phi Theta Pi was
founded as a local organization in Des Moines, Iowa, May 15, 1926 by
Richard G. Cole and Everett O. Fenton.
The fraternity was
incorporated as a non-pecuniary corporation under the laws of the State of
Iowa on September 21, 1928.
Since October 26, 1936, Phi Theta Pi
has been International in its scope of organization and activities. It has
chapters in both the United States and Canada. Since our
inception, we have installed over 50 chapters. Over 23,000 students
have been initiated into the ranks of Fraternity.
Phi Theta Pi is a
progressive Fraternity. In 1995 our By-Laws were amended to become a
co-ed to allow all students to become members of the Fraternity.
To associate in its
membership representative students, alumni and faculty members of
recognized Schools and Colleges of Business and Commerce and other
such schools as are deemed acceptable to the International Board of
Governors of Phi Theta Pi.
To
foster a spirit of loyalty, friendship and cooperation of our members
to their respective institutions, and of the institutions to each
other.
To foster and
promote the welfare of the members not only while they are enrolled in
such institutions, but to actively continue such services thereafter.
To
encourage and assist members in the attainment of increased
efficiency, higher standards and continued progress in their
respective occupations and professions.
To
encourage employers to seek employees through such recognized schools
of colleges of business and commerce
To
educate employers that the Phi Theta Pi pin is a mark of efficiency
and a badge of honesty and integrity.
